PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng addresses the IMO 2007 opening ceremony
The 48th IMO will last from July 19-30 in Hà Nội, attracting over 600 students from nearly 100 countries and territories, including the newcomers like Cambodia and the United Arab Emirates.
The Vietnamese team consists of six eminent students elected among 41 winners of nationwide math contests.
In his speech, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng warmly welcomed teachers and students to the IMO 2007. "It's Việt Nam's honor to host the IMO as it reflects the trust and confidence of the international mathematicians and friends," the PM said.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng affirmed that all students will enjoy best and equal conditions compete their mathematical talents and share experience, contributing to the development of mathematics.
To date, Việt Nam has participated 29 IMOs since 1974 and won 35 gold medals, 73 silvers and 51 bronzes. From 1991 to 2004, Việt Nam always ranked in the top-ten. In 2004, Việt Nam ranked fourth after China, the US and Russia, with four first prizes and two second.
