Continuing to aid socio-economic development in disadvantaged areas

VGP - PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng gave nod to the agreement under which the Irish Government will provide funds to Việt Nam to implement the 2nd phase of Program 135.

Through Program 135, people in many remote areas can access to clean water

The Program was designed to help boost socio-economic development in the most disadvantaged communes of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

In the first phase, carried out from 1999-2005, 736 communes could get out of the poverty line.

The 2 nd phase is scheduled to be implemented from 2006-2010 and 1,644 communes are expected to benefit from the Program.

The Government will spend VND 12,950 billion and international sponsors pledged to offer US $330 million for the 2 nd phase of the Program.

The 2 nd phase aims at renovating the modes of production, shifting agro-product structure, providing key infrastructure facilities, and improving capacity of grassroots-level cadres and communities in planning, supervising and assessing the improvement of people’s livelihood.
