Gov’t commits to forest preservation

VGP – The Government chief recently agreed to allocate the State budget for forest preservation and development in 2011.

Specifically, the Government will use the State budget to protect 2.26 million hectares of forest, reclaim 400,000 hectares, and plant 200,000 hectares.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment was assigned to work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Ministry of Finance to realize the plan.

The PM also asked the MARD to work with relevant ministries and agencies to map out a program on forest preservation and development in the period of 2011-2015.

It was reported that Việt Nam will complete the five million hectares afforestation program in 2010. So far, the country has over 13 million hectares of forest and more than 2.8 million hectares of blank land for forestry development.
