Gov’t gets tough on lottery businesses

VGP – The Government prohibits the provision of information possibly predicting lottery results, according to the newly-approved Decree 78/2012/NĐ-CP.

The Decree contains amendments and supplements to some articles of the Government’s Decree 30/2007/NĐ-CP on lottery business.

Following the spirit of the former decree, the new document strictly prohibits illegal organization of lottery business in all forms and by any means; use of lottery results for other prize awarding programs; issuance of lottery from foreign countries for domestic organizations and individuals and distortion of results.

Decree 78 also stipulates that relatives of officials and staff who work for lottery enterprises, like spouses, parents, adoptive fathers and mothers; adoptive children; siblings, adoptive brothers and sisters, are not allowed to open lottery agencies.

Under the Decree, lottery enterprises no longer run as limited liability companies, which are 100% owned by the State. They now have an executive board, including President, CEO and controllers or President cum CEO and controllers.
