Working with the Việt Nam Electricity Group (EVN) this afternoon, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng hailed the Group’s efforts in supplying electric power to serve the national economy and people’s daily life, minimizing the loss and waste, and saving jobs for employees.

He asked the MIT and EVN to design solutions to save electricity and outline a master plan for the development of the electricity market.

The sector should mobilize capital sources and speed the site clearance for the construction of power projects, said the Government chief.

He also agreed that power projects which were conducted behind schedule will be transferred to other capable investors.

The PM also gave conclusions on some proposals to restructure the power sector, define EVN’s ownership, allocate land funds for electric grids, and develop electricity industry to speed up industrialization and modernization.

In 2008, EVN generated 65.93 billion Kwh, increasing 2.94 times compared with 2000. The sector’s total revenue was VND 66,371 billion.

Since 1995, EVN has reduced the rate of power loss by 12.05% or nearly 0.93% per year on average. In 2008 only, this figure was cut down to 9.35%.
