According to a newly-approved decree, the minimum wage rose by VND 100,000 (US$4.076) to VND 1,150,000 (around US$50).
The document said that the adjustment in monthly minimum wage was based on the budget’s capacity, consumer price index and the country’s economic growth.
This is the fifth minimum wage increase in the past five years. Monthly minimum wage was VND 650,000 (US$30.9) in 2009; VND 730,000 (US$34.7) in 2010; VND 830,000 (US$39.5) in 2011 and VND 1,050,000 in 2012.
Earlier, the Viet Nam National Assembly on November 2012 approved a new common minimum wage rate of VND1,150,000./.
