PM Dung made the statement when speaking at the 70
th anniversary of UN establishment (October 24, 1945-2015) held in Ha Noi on October 27.
The leader highlighted the significance of the organization’s establishment, which brought great changes to the human kinds’ peace and advancement.
The UN has played a key role in preventing and resolving disputes, repelling war threats, maintaining peace, building a developed world and achieving important results in peace, security, development and human rights, PM Dung said.
The organization has been internationally recognized as the most prestigious and large-scale body with 193 members, fulfilling its central role in building regulations and standards of international law, addressing global challenges, economic, social, cultural and humanity issues, as well as supporting disadvantaged and less developed countries, he added.
PM Dung expressed his gratitude to effective cooperation of UN organisations in Viet Nam, saying that since its official membership in 1997, Viet Nam has attached importance to relations with the UN and valued its support to the country in protecting, building and developing the nation, especially in recovering war consequences, improving the legal system’s capacity, enhancing administrative reforms, implementing hunger eradication and poverty reduction, coping with climate change and boosting sustainable development.
He noted that Viet Nam has become a developing country with medium incomes and realizing many millennium development goals before deadlines and affirmed that Viet Nam is a reliable and responsible member, actively making practical contributions to the UN’s activities.
Viet Nam was elected to important positions in the organization and the country’s cooperation with the UN was evaluated as a typical model for the relationship between the UN and its members, PM Dung said.
The Government leader suggested that the UN should enhance comprehensive, transparent and equal innovation to meet interests of all members; foster policies and resources to address inequality, eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, narrow development gaps, boost green economic development and lay a sustainable basis for peace, security and development.
PM Dung suggested that the UN Security Council and UN agencies in Viet Nam should renew their operation and expressed his belief that the Viet Nam-UN relations will continue to gain further achievements in all fields.
He affirmed that Viet Nam is ready to participate and make practical contributions to the UN’s global activities.
At the ceremony, UN Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam Pratibha Mehta stated main points in the UN Agenda to 2030 on sustainable development and presented PM Dung the UN’s flag.
On this occasion, PM Dung and the participants visited a photo exhibition on the UN’s activities in Viet Nam and the Viet Nam-UN relations.
