PM attends 20th ASEAN Summit

VGP –PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng left on Monday for Phnom Penh, Cambodia to attend the 20th ASEAN Summit scheduled to take place from April 3-4 at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen.

With the theme of “ASEAN: One Community, One Destiny”, the summit will discuss on enhancing cooperation in building an ASEAN community, promoting links and connectivity between ASEAN and its partners, strengthening the central role of ASEAN in an emerging regional architecture and exchanging issues of common concern.

ASEAN continues to implement its roadmap for building an ASEAN community and the Mater Plan on ASEAN Connectivity, enhance its resources for coordination and supervision work between its members at national and regional level and integrate regional commitments with national development programs. 

Regarding ASEAN central’srole, the block will consolidate and enhance its relations with other partners through the frameworks of regional forums such as ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3, the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) to create favorable conditions for partners to contribute their opinions on issues related to peace, security, cooperation and development in the region and support ASEAN’s top priorities.

By attending the summit, Việt Nam reaffirmed that it is an active and responsible member of ASEAN as well as its determination to speed up the building of ASEAN community in the next three years.

Theo dự kiến, kết thúc Hội nghị, các nước ASEAN sẽ thông qua Tuyên bố Phnom Penh “ASEAN: một Cộng đồng, một Vận mệnh”; Tuyên bố về ASEAN không có ma túy vào năm 2015; Tuyên bố Chủ tịch ASEAN về kỷ niệm 45 năm thành lập ASEAN và kết quả Hội nghị Cấp cao 20 theo thông lệ.

As planned, ASEAN leaders are expected to approve the Phnom Penh Declaration on “ASEAN: One Community, One Destiny”, a Joint Declaration for a Drug-Free ASEAN, an ASEAN Chair’s Declaration on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN and the results of the ASEAN summit.
