PM attends 50th ABU GA opening ceremony
VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on October 28 attended an opening ceremony of the 50th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Annual General Assembly (ABU GA) in Ha Noi.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Dung stressed that Viet Nam has paid due attention and proposed mechanisms and policies to create favorable conditions for the development of the broadcasting sector in ways of technology modernization, program professionalization and service diversification.
Viet Nam has increased its regional and international cooperation and integration to raise the role, responsibilities and effectiveness of broadcasting with the aim of enhancing people’s awareness while meeting their information and entertainment demands, he added.
The PM expected that the event will create a chance for policy-makers, speakers and high-ranking leaders to exchange, discuss, share knowledge and vision to propose strategic measures and specific action plans to develop the broadcasting sector.
PM Dung also called for strengthening multi-lateral and bilateral cooperation between members of the ABU to make result-orientated contribution to the regional and international peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
The 50th ABU GA, held from October 23-29 in Ha Noi, has drawn the attendance of 500 delegates and high-ranking leaders from 200 members including regional and international broadcasting organizations, partners and observers from 50 nations and territories in the world.
The ABU has more than 255 member broadcasters large and small spread across the region’s 63 countries, from Turkey in the West to Samoa in the East, and from Russia in the North to New Zealand in the South.
Established in 1964 as a non-profit, non-governmental professional association to assist the development of broadcasting in the region, the ABU promotes the collective interests of television and radio broadcasters and encourages regional and international co-operation between broadcasters.
