PM attends sum-up conference on new-style rural area construction

VGP - The steering committee of the national target program on building new-style rural areas held a conference in Ha Noi on December 8 reviewing the work from 2010-2015 and devising tasks for 2016-2020.

The conference saw the presence of PM Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh and leaders from relevant agencies and organizations.
 
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, also Deputy Head of the steering committee, delivered a report on the program’s implementation over the past five years and a plan for the 2016-2020 period.
 
The report highlighted the achievements of the innitiative which has grown  into a mass movement across the country, developing infrastructure in rural areas and improving material and spiritual conditions for rural residents.
 
The average income per capita of rural residents reached VND24.4 million per year, a 1.9% rise over that in 2010, the report said.
 
It also offered lessons learned from the implementation, including the connection between the program and agricultural restructure and the realization of local socio-economic development plans; promoting people’s roles in the program and communication on the program; enhancing the leadership of authorities and collaboration of organisations and agencies; selecting appropriate approaches and implementing flexibly policies in different localities; and mobilizing feasible resources for the realization.
 
In the next five years, the program aims to increase the number of qualified new-style rural areas to 50% nationwide through boosting communication on the program, completing the fundamental infrastructure, developing production together with agricultural restructure, improving environmental conditions, mobilizing and utilizing effectively resources for the program.
