Cooperation in other fields like trade and investment has been expanded quickly while education-training and defense-security cooperation has also been accelerated, the Government chief said during his reception for US Ambassador to Viet Nam David Shear on Tuesday.
Viet Nam especially attaches importance to strengthening cooperative relations with the US in all fields, emphasized the Government chief, adding that the country stands ready to hold talks with the US in various issues, including human rights, on the basis of mutual understanding and respect.
Urging the two countries to beef up economic cooperation, PM Dung called on the US to support and show necessary flexibility to Viet Nam during the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations.
Ambassador David Shear said he would continue to make positive contributions to the expansion of the relations between the two countries.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the US diplomat said peace, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation are the common interest of countries in and outside the region.
One of the key causes of poor security and safety in the East Sea as well as of the threat to peace and security in the region is China’s unreasonable “nine-dot line” claim, said Mr. David Shear.
He also lauded Viet Nam’s consistent efforts together with other ASEAN countries to demand China to strictly observe international law, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), working towards to the building of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea./.
