The 7th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting is held in the context that the Mekong-Japan cooperation has gained a lot of success, especially in realizing the Tokyo Strategy 2012.
The Summit is aimed at proposing orientations for Mekong-Japan cooperation in the 2016-2018 phase and reviewing the Mekong-Japan cooperation, including the implementation of the Mekong-Japan cooperation program in the 2013-2015 phase and putting forward cooperative preferentiality in the future.
As scheduled, the Tokyo Strategy 2015 and large measures for Mekong-Japan cooperation in the 2016-2018 period will be approved.
Earlier, the sixth Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting was held in Myanmar in November 2014. Delegates at the meeting consented with three issues including forge links in the GMS with an emphasis on developing economic corridors and road routes connecting the sub-region with India and South Asian nations; facilitate business activities between the GMS and Japan; and promote sustainable development in the region through low-carbon growth.
Viet Nam successfully organized the second Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting in Ha Noi in October 2010. The Economic and Industrial Cooperation Initiative was ratified, focusing on hard infrastructure, commerce, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and expanding services and new industries.
Viet Nam’s participation at the 7th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting is expected to promote the socio-economic development of the Greater Mekong Sub-region in general and of Viet Nam in particular.
The nation affirms its commitments and role in the Mekong-Japan cooperation, consolidates the relationship with other nations in the Greater Mekong Sub-region and enhances the extensive Strategic Partnership relations with Japan more effectively.
