Leaders to the first Summit of the Mekong River Commission

The information was released at a press conference on March 27.
The Summit aims to highlight the importance of trans-national cooperation in sustainable water resource development and other resources in the Mekong River in the context of rising demand for water, energy and food.
It also provides a chance for leaders of member countries of the Mekong River Commission to reaffirm their political commitments to overcoming difficulties and challenges in order to achieve sustainable development in the Mekong River Basin.
It is expected that a joint statement will be issued at the Summit.
The first Summit of the Mekong River Commission was held on April 5, 2010 in Hua Hin, Thailand on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the signing of Agreement on the Cooperation for the Sustainable Development of the Mekong River Basin (the Mekong Agreement)./.
