Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh, Head of the Central Steering Committee for Sustainable Poverty Reduction (CSPR) will co-chair the conference.

The event will bring together the Committee’s members and representatives from the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, the Central Committees of the Viet Nam Veterans’ Association and the Viet Nam Farmers’ Association.

Members of the steering committees at provincial and municipal levels of central-governed provinces and cities and local reporters will also take part in the teleconference.

According to a report by the CSPR, by the end of 2014, the poor household rate reduced to 1.8-2% per year (from 7.8% to 5.8-6%) and that in disadvantaged districts averaged 5% per year (from 38.20% in 2013 to 33.20% in 2014).

However, the poverty reduction has not been sustainable when the  districts, communes and ethnic regions, high rates (over 50%) still remained in many localities. The number of poor ethnic households accounted for nearly 50% of the total number nationwide and the average income of ethnic households was merely one sixth compared to the country’s average income.

In addition, several policies on reducing poverty among disadvantaged and ethnic minority people have not been practical and effective.
