PM Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement during a meeting with the province’s leaders on the local socio-economic situation on January 3.
After hearing the province’s report on socio-economic situation in 2012 and its plan set for 2014, PM Dung praised the achievements the locality has obtained while pointing out shortcomings Tra Vinh should overcome.
He suggested the province focus on promoting its potential and advantages in agriculture and fisheries, repeating large-scale field models and applying scientific and technological advances in production to improve output, quality and competitiveness of farm products while attracting businesses to invest in rural areas in order to adjust the economic structure and create jobs for rural workers.
PM Dung asked for futher resolution in implementing the program on new rural area construction and more dynamic and creative measures to mobilize resources to realise the program.
He suggested the locality concentrating on transportation, irrigation, production support, vocational training and job creation, to spur its socio-economic development.
In addition, the Government leader reminded the leaders on ensuring social welfare, taking effective synchronized measures on poverty reduction in a fast and sustainable manner, enhancing medical, cultural and educational development and improving the living standards whilst safeguarding political security and social order and safety during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
On the same day, PM Dung made field trips to a project to construct a large tonnage vessel passage to the Hau River and the Coastal Power Centre project.
He also visited and presented pre-Tet gifts to religious dignitaries of the Tra Vinh Provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council at Angarra Japuri Pagoda.
