40-45% of population to use Internet by 2015

VGP – Vietnam sets the target to increase the number of Internet users to 40-45% of population by 2015 and 55-60% by 2020, according to a newly-approved National Telecommunication Development Plan until 2020.

Some 40-45% of the Vietnamese households will have home phones and the mobile coverage will spread to 90% of the country’s population by 2015.

By 2020, this sector is expected to grow 1.2-1.5 times higher than the GDP growth rate with the revenue of US$15-17 billion, making up 6-7% of the GDP.

The Government will restructure the telecommunication market to form three to four big telecom groups while speeding up broadband access to grass-roots levels.
