ASEAN+3 Emergency Rice Reserve Agreement passed

VGP – The Vietnamese Government has approved the ASEA Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Agreement and assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to implement the agreement.

Vietnam will join the reserve which regulates by the APTERR Secretariat, according to the Office of Government’s recent Official Dispatch.

The MARD is responsible for working with the Ministry of Finance to research on methods and levels of assistance in specific cases and submit to PM for consideration.

Under the APTERR Agreement, ten ASEAN and its three partners should provide a rice stock of 787,000 tons to anticipate sudden instabilities in supply and production caused by natural disasters. 

Of the figure, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea will contribute 300,000 tons, 250,000 tons and 150,000 tons of rice, respectively, while ASEAN countries prepare 87,000 tons. Thailand is the biggest contributor with 15,000 tons. Vietnam and Myanmar will contribute 14,000 tons each, while Indonesia and the Philippines contribute 12,000 tons each./.
