The project is financed by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) through a non-refundable aid of US $500,000.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said that the funding will be used to employ both local and international consultants, buy new breeding shrimps, as well as pay for equipment and lab activities to find out causes of the disease..
FAO will also help improve the biological safety in shrimp farming, complete instructions for urgent situations and develop a strategy to manage aquatic products in the future.
The unidentified shrimp disease has become serious, especially in southern provinces. It is estimated that more than 30,000 households have been affected.
