Germany-funded wind power project gets more time

VGP -  The Government has agreed to extend the implementation duration of the project “Establishing legal framework and improve technical capacity for grid-connected wind power development in Việt Nam” till December 31, 2012.

Accordingly, the German Government will freely provide Việt Nam with €551,911 in official development assistance.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade was authorized to complete and ratify necessary documents under the current regulations on ODA management and use.

This project focuses on three areas, namely: developing legal framework for grid-connected wind power, introducing and implementing ecologically-oriented planning processes for wind power projects, and providing capacity development for short-listed wind power projects.

Increased wind power generation can contribute to climate protection by preventing greenhouse gas emissions. A 15 MW wind mill can reduce 45,000 tons of CO² emitted annually in comparison with a newly-build coal-fired power plant. In addition, it can prevent local environmental damage, such as the leaching of diesel and lubricants into soil.
