Gov’t supports overseas Vietnamese to possess houses at home
VNGOP – Overseas Vietnamese are an indispensable part of the Vietnamese community. Thus, it is necessary to amend current stipulations to enable the Vietnamese nationals residing abroad to visit the fatherland and their relatives, do business and investment as well as purchase and possess houses in Việt Nam under the laws.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made his emphasis at the meeting on September 19 in Hà Nội at which the participants discussed overseas Vietnamese’s duration of residence as a criterion to allow the latter to own houses in Việt Nam under the Law on Housing.
The Government chief assigned the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with the relevant ministries in drafting a decree to facilitate overseas Vietnamese’s legal ownership of houses. The decree must be submitted to the PM within October 2007.
The PM suggested that the decree should diversify the groups of overseas Vietnamese who can purchase and possess houses. The overseas Vietnamese include (a) Vietnamese nationality-holders residing abroad, (b) Vietnamese nationals residing abroad, having a foreign citizenship but retaining Vietnamese nationality, and (c) foreign passport holders of Vietnamese origin residing and working abroad. For the members of the (c) group who are involved in purchasing and owning houses, Vietnamese legal regulations will be applied to deal with issues relating to their rights and obligations.
