PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng ordered ministries, sectors and local authorities to protect dyke systems within the storm-hit areas; bring food, medicine, clothes and other necessities to assist the victims; restore roads, electricity network, schools, clinics and people’s houses; ensure environmental hygiene in the flooded areas; and prevent epidemics and hunger.
The Government chief also urged the local authorities to spare no effort in rescuing the missing victims and treating the injured, especially those in the isolated areas.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was asked to quickly recover agricultural production.
The PM allowed the local authorities to use their standby budgets to deal with the aftermaths of the hurricane.

In the same day, Deputy PMs Hoàng Trung Hải and Nguyễn Thiện Nhân also chaired an urgent teleconference of the Central Steering Board for Flood and Storm Control with leaders of eight provinces in Northern and Central Việt Nam, discussing solutions to respond to Hurricane Mekkhala.
The leaders of the Government ordered the local authorities to focus on preventive measures against heavy rains. First of all, they should call all boats fishing in dangerous areas to go ashore, help farmers to harvest crop, evacuate residents, maintain electricity and communications in the hot-spots.

It is reported that Hurricane Hagupit caused 41 deaths, injured 61 others. The material losses were estimated of VND 1,036 billion.
