India recognizes VN as a real market economy

VGP – Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and Indian PM Manmohan Singh, who are both staying in Cha-am Hua Hin, Thailand for the 15th ASEAN Summit, on Sunday witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on India’s recognition of Việt Nam’s full market economy.

The Vietnamese PM highly valued Việt Nam ’s cooperation with India in such fields as economics, technology transfer and education while suggesting the two sides outline new mechanisms for bilateral cooperation.

PM Manmohan Singh reiterated that his Government and India places a special importance on the strategic partnership with Việt Nam .

The Indian business circle is also much interested in business and investment activities in Việt Nam he added, hoping that the upcoming visits to India by Vietnamese State President Nguyễn Minh Triết and NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng will surely deepen the Việt Nam-India Partnership.

PM Manmohan Singh stated that, after signing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on commodity, India is willing to negotiate for a new FTA on services and investment with ASEAN.

Praising Việt Nam ’s ASEAN presidency in 2010, the Indian PM expected that Việt Nam will help to boost the relationship between India and ASEAN.

Right after their meeting, the two PMs witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding on India ’s recognition of Việt Nam ’s market economy.
