The master scheme targets to form a national highway network that connects key economic centres, important border gates, and transport hubs on high transport demands at high speed.
It aims to build North-South highway lines and prioritize highways which link big cities (namely Ha Noi, HCMC, and Da Nang) and large seaports.
The new scheme defines 21 highways with a total length of 6,411 km.
Specifically, there will have two North-South highway lines which stretch around 3,083 km.
The northern system includes 14 highways which connect Ha Noi with other provinces with a total length of 1,368 km including Ha Noi-Bac Giang-Lang Son line (143 km); Ha Noi-Hai Hong (105 km); Ha Noi-Viet Tri (Phu Tho)-Lao Cai (264 km); Noi Bai-Bac Ninh-Ha Long (Quang Ninh) (176 km); Ninh Binh-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh (160 km); Dong Dang-Tra Linh (144 km).
The central and central highland system consists of three lines with a total stretch of 264 km.
The 983 km-southern network has seven routes./.
