Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources approved
VGP – The PM has approved the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits, which is sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) non-refundable aid through the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The project, worth more than US$12.5 million, will be launched within four years in Ha Noi and Lao Cai Province.
The project is aimed at sustainably conserving and using the biodiversity with the global significance in Viet Nam by enhancing the national capacity in realizing the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits.
It will also establish and consolidate the policy and document system on management and access to genetic resources, support the establishment of mechanisms to get access to genetic resources as well as promote the Public-Private Partnership model in this field.
The PM also ratified the adjustment of the Viet Nam-Germany Vocational Training Center, which is financed by the Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the German Government.
The non-refundable ODA will be reduced from €2 million to €1.7 million. The reduction of €300,000 will be spent on purchasing equipment.
