First, the strategy aims to ensure food-energy-water security, reduce poverty and gender inequality, improve people’s living standards, and protect natural resources.
Second, the strategy sets out a target of transforming Việt Nam into a low-carbon economy, with green growth becoming a mainstream of sustainable development.
Third, it underlines the need to improve relevant stakeholders’ awareness, sense of responsibility, and capacity to cope with climate change.
Fourth, Việt Nam is determined to actively contribute to the international community’s efforts in dealing with climate change.
The strategy, which also covers 10 strategic tasks, says that climate change adaptation is a vital issue for Việt Nam.
Of these tasks, the Government plans to build a supervisory system for climate change and sea level rise.
Other tasks include the increase of forest coverage to 45% by 2020.
