In his Circular No. 845/CT-TTg, the Government chief asked the Ministry of Science and Technology to be responsible for developing a database system on industrial property, a national information network on protection of industrial property rights.
The Ministry was also assigned to study the possibility of signing related cooperative agreements with foreign partners.
Relevant legal regulations must be further disseminated via mass media, the Government chief required.
Provincial People’s Committees must speed up assistance in terms of trademarks and geographical indications protection for local products and commodities, the circular says.
The enforcement of industrial property rights has become an increasingly important issue for Việt Nam’s socio-economic development and international integration.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese Government adopted several measures to strengthen the protection of industrial property rights. The number of protected patents, industrial designs and geographical indications has been considerably increased over the past time.
However, prolonged violations of the industrial property rights have caused losses for both owners and consumers.
The key reason is that many ministries, sectors and localities still do not attach importance to the management of the industrial property rights’ implementation.
