PM Dung meets with state leaders for nuclear summit

VGP - Ahead of the third Nuclear Security Summit (NSS), which opened in The Hague, the Netherlands on March 24, PM Nguyen Tan Dung had sidelines meetings with state leaders attending the gathering.

During the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, both leaders expressed their pleasure with developments in bilateral ties.

President Xi said that the plan on promoting bilateral relations, which was set during Premier Li Keqiang’s recent visit to Viet Nam, should be realized.

PM Dung told him that he asked the Vietnamese Subcommittee of the Steering Committee for Viet Nam-China Bilateral Co-operation to prepare for its upcoming meeting soon.

Meeting with the Vietnamese Government leader, US President Barrack Obama lauded Viet Nam’s important contributions to the previous NSSs.

Regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Obama pledged a flexible and favourable approach to the negotiations with Viet Nam, as well as to open the market to the country’s apparel, footwear, farm produce and seafood.

He hoped that with strong political resolve, member countries will conclude TPP negotiations in line with the 2011 Honolulu joint statement. He also affirmed that he will visit Viet Nam soon.

For his part, PM Dung affirmed Viet Nam’s determination to work actively with other TPP members to conclude the negotiations in a spirit of considering adequately all sides’ interests and narrowing the development gap.

PM Dung also expressed his hope that the US will pay due attention to Viet Nam’s interests and support the country in negotiations, as well as recognize the country as a market economy soon.

At their conversation, PM Dung and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe expressed their pleasure with new developments in bilateral ties.

PM Abe valued President Truong Tan Sang’s recent state visit to Japan. The two sides agreed to realize effectively the visit’s outcomes.

President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Park Geun-hye expressed her hope that her country and Viet Nam will reach a free trade agreement as soon as possible, contributing to promoting trade and investment cooperation.

PM Dung thanked the RoK for resuming its program on recruiting foreign workers and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese guest workers in the country.

The Government leader also met with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Czech Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Belobradek and Viet Nam’s Honorary Consular General to the Netherlands W.H Schuurman.
