He made the statement while receiving KyawKyawMaung, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar in Ha Noi on August 6.

PM Dung lauded the governor’s ongoing working visit in Viet Nam, saying that Viet Nam and Myanmar have time-treasured friendship and enjoy positive developments in economic, trade and investment cooperation.

Though Viet Nam has become the eighth largest investor in Myanmar and two-way trade has seen high year-on-year growth, economic, trade and investment cooperation potential between the two countries remains huge, PM Dung said.

To maintain and foster Vietnamese businesses’ investment and trade in Myanmar, PM Dung suggested Myanmar license the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) to open a branch in the country to facilitate Vietnamese businesses’ investment while both sides should work closely with each other to address arising issues in bilateral economic cooperation.

For his part, Maung reaffirmed close links between the two countries, saying that Myanmar always appreciates Viet Nam’s support and cooperation in Myanmar’s national construction and development.

He affirmed that Myanmar attaches importance to enhancing multifaceted relations with Viet Nam, especially in economics, trade and investment, as well as between the two central banks for mutual benefits and development.
Myanmar will work closely with Viet Nam to resolve arising matters to facilitate investment and business of both countries’ businesses, the Governor said.

He added that he has received directions from President Thein Sein on the BIDV’s branch establishment and he will enhance required procedures to license the branch opening.
