PM meets European Council President

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Monday met with President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy as part of his on-going visit to the European Union.

The two leaders expressed their pleasure at the fine development of the relations between Viet Nam and the EU over the past time, especially in such fields like politics-diplomacy, trade and investment, and development cooperation.

PM Dung stressed that Viet Nam attaches importance to the ties with the EU, calling on the European Council to support early conclusion of the EVFTA talks in a bid to give a strong impetus to the Viet Nam-EU relations.

President Herman Van Rompuy highly valued Viet Nam’s role and position in the region, reiterating the EU’s stance of supporting the settlement of disputes in the East Sea through peaceful measures in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, calling on all parties to strictly implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

Earlier on the same day, PM Nguyen Tan Dung held talks EC President Manuel Barroso to discuss on the current process of EVFTA talks.

Both sides issued a joint statement on orientations for the conclusion of the EVFTA talks in the months to come./.
