Japan is now the biggest ODA provider and foreign direct investor, and a major trade partner of Viet Nam.
Both countries have signed a number of important deals, including the Viet Nam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, Investment Encouragement and Promotion Agreement, Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, and are joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership talks.
PM Dung praised Abenomics policy initiated by PM Shinzo Abe to boost Japan’s economic growth and the role played by the Japan Business Federation to accelerate the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Vietnamese Government chief also called for more dialogues between Viet Nam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and Japan’s business delegations.
PM Dung expected that Keidanren would coordinate closely with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to realize the Viet Nam-Japan Joint Initiative phase 5 and industrialization strategy within the framework of Viet Nam-Japan cooperation.
Keidanren is a comprehensive economic organization with a membership comprised of 1,300 representative companies of Japan, 121 nationwide industrial associations and 47 regional economic organizations (as of July 1, 2013).
Over the past years, Keidanren regularly organized Japanese business delegations to visit and seek opportunities in Viet Nam.
On November 26, 2012, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Keidanren signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a dialogue channel to discuss policy measures towards the economic development and industrialization targets of Viet Nam, boost Japan’s investment in Viet Nam among others.
