PM orders to focus resources on coping with Ketsana
VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng in late evening of September 29 issued an urgent note urging ministries, sectors and local authorities to mobilize all resources and take necessary measures to deal with consequences of Tropical Storm Ketsana in Central Việt Nam.
| A steel-frame poster collapses in the city of Đà Nẵng when tropical storm Ketsana sweeps through Central Việt Nam, September 29, 2009 – Photo: VGP | The PM required Chairpersons of the provinces of Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên-Huế, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, and Đắk Lắk to continue searching for missing people; evacuate households from flooded areas and regions threatened by flash floods and landslides; repair houses damaged by the storm; provide food, fresh water, clothes and medicines to people in isolated areas; restore infrastructure works and ensure environmental hygiene. The Ministry of Transport was assigned to clear the blockades on national highways to resume transport along the major routes. The Ministry of Industry and Trade must direct the Electricity of Việt Nam to restore the damaged electricity systems in order to maintain power supplies to the central regions and important projects here. At the same time, the Ministry must strictly control the market to prevent speculation and illegal price increases. The Government chief also ordered the Ministry of Health to dispatch medical workers to flooded localities to ensure people’s healthcare and environmental hygiene. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was asked to protect reservoirs and irrigation works as well as assist central provinces to resume production soon.
