PM passes GMS tourism infrastructure project

VGP – The PM has recently ratified ADB-funded Project on Greater Mekong Sub-region Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and People’s Committee of Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Ha Tinh, Tay Ninh and Kien Giang would implement the project in the 2014-2019 period.

The project outputs would be (i) improved urban-rural connectivity; (ii) improved urban environmental conditions; (iii) strengthened institutional capacity for tourism destination management; and (iv) effective project implementation and knowledge management.

In addition, the project aims to increase cross-border tourism receipts benefit people living in underdeveloped segments of the GMS economic corridors including Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia.  

The project will improve tourism-related infrastructure, human resource development, protection of the environment, and development of multicounty tourism products and services supports the participating countries' overarching goals of poverty reduction and inclusive economic growth./.
