With this vision, consolidating and enhancing the development of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) is necessary in order to realize the country’s Sea Strategy through 2020.

By the end of last year, Vinalines managed a strong fleet of 154 vessels with total capacity of 3.4 million tons. However, disunity, wrongdoings in production management, and violations of investment regulations have resulted in considerable economic losses and eroded people’s confidence.

 In a bid to get the corporation back on track, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Ministry of Finance to make a full and precise report on its current financial status.

The Government chief urged the corporation to focus on its three core business areas, namely maritime transport, seaports and services.

Regarding seaports, the corporation needs to focus on equitizing its affiliates in this area and on building and exploiting international seaports of Lac Huyen, Cai Mep and Thi Vai.

The corporation was asked to restructure its vessel fleets and take synchronous measures to improve the efficiency of these vessels.

Prime Minister Dung requested Vinalines to study the aforesaid ideas and finalize a restructuring plan for itself and submit the plan to him for consideration.
