PM wants stronger child care and protection

VGP - Việt Nam has implemented its National Action Program for Children 2001-2010 for ten years and gained some considerable achievements. Recently, the PM issued Instruction 1408/CT-TTg on promoting child care and protection.

The PM ordered the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) to work with relevant agencies and provincial People’s Committees, after reviewing and assessing the implementation of current legal documents on child care and protection, to propose revisions, supplementations or abolishment.

Standards and process for protecting and caring disadvantaged children must be completed by the end of 2010 at the latest.

In September 2009, the National Action Plan for HIV/AIDS-affected Children to 2010 and with visions to 2020 must be promulgated.

The Government chief also required that the child care and protection system and social affairs centers for children must be built and experimented in the last quarter of 2009 and the following year in some selected provinces.

MOLISA was asked to take more measures to assist disadvantaged children; eradicate child abuse and prevent child injuries and accidents.

The PM also urged the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information and Communication, and Ministry of Finance to complete their assignments in order to enhance child care and protection.
