PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asserted that Việt Nam always attaches importance to economic ties with the US. He went on to confidently say that, through the visit of leading US businesses, the investment and trade exchanges between the two countries would be considerably increased.
“I strongly believe that the US will surely become the biggest investor and partner of Việt Nam”, the PM emphasized.
The Vietnamese leader also expressed his hope that, in the time to come, Việt Nam and the US would reach the consensus on a bilateral investment agreement (BIA) and that the US Government would early grant the preferential import tax status to Việt Nam.
President of the US-ASEAN Business Council Matthew P.Daley and many US businesses pledged to do their best to facilitate Việt Nam’s access to the status, so as to deepen the economic cooperation between the two countries.
In 2007, the two-way trade turnover between Việt Nam and the US was US $13 billion. With over 1,000 enterprises operating in Việt Nam, the US is now ranking the 6 th biggest investor here. The trade turnover is estimated to reach US $15-18 billion this year.
