Renewable Energy for Water Supply in Mekong Delta project approved

VGP -  The Government has approved the “Renewable Energy for Water Supply in Mekong Delta” project with total non-refundable aid of 4 million Danish krone.

The People’s Committee of Can Tho City was assigned to verify, approve and sign related documents.

The project will benefit residents of 12 provinces and a city, namely Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Long An, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, An Giang, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Tien Giang and Can Tho City.

The objective of the project is to promote sustainable renewable energy water supply for rural communities in the Mekong Delta providing water to users and being used as demonstration site to make an informed change from non-renewable energy systems.

The project’s objective is consistent with Viet Nam’s direction in Green Growth, which was well expressed through the ASEM Green Growth Forum in Ha Noi, October 2011.

Viet Nam’s Mekong Delta region is potentially one of the world’s most affected areas due to Climate Change. Adapting to such situation, the Renewable Energy Water Supply in the Mekong Delta Project has been committed with the development objective of increasing the knowledge and use of renewable energy solar and wind powered water supply system for the benefit of the Vietnamese rural people, the environment and the economics of the region./.
