UNDP vows to support development process

VGP – Administrator Helen Clark on Friday affirmed UNDP would continue to support Viet Nam’s development efforts during her meeting with PM Nguyen Tan Dung.

Helen Clark said that her current visit to Viet Nam aims to find out measures to assist the country in mobilizing resources for reducing poverty rate, overcoming war legacy, and improving the capacity of the implementation of national strategies for green growth and climate change adaptation.

She spoke highly of the country’s effort in implementing the Millennium Development Goals, the UN Viet Nam One Plan and UN reform.

PM Dung highly appreciated the role by UNDP and Administrator Helen Clark in accelerating UN-led development cooperation, especially in assisting countries to mitigate adverse impacts of global financial crisis and economic downturn, realize Millennium Development Goals and figure out post-2015 development agenda.

As an active and responsible member of the UN, Viet Nam sees UNDP as an important development partner which has made practical contribution to the country’s poverty reduction and socio-economic development, noted the Government chief.

During her five-day visit to Viet Nam, the Administrator is scheduled to participate in a series of important meetings, including the UNDG Asia-Pacific Meeting with Regional Directors of UN offices in Asia, the annual UNDP Regional Cluster Meeting of UNDP Representatives across the region./.
