VN, Bangladesh agree to lift trade value to US$1 billion

VGP – Viet Nam and Bangladesh have agreed to lift the two-way trade value to US$1 billion within the next five years.

The agreement was reached during the talks between PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Ha Noi on November 2.

The two leaders agreed to organize the second meeting of the Joint Committee for economic, trade, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation and the first political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in 2013.

Both sides affirmed their determination to enhance the bilateral ties and discussed specific measures to beef up political, security and defense, economic, trade and investment linkages.

The two PMs also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern and vowed to continue close coordination at forums like the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, ASEMGreater Mekong Sub-region, East-West Economic Corridor.

They stressed that countries around the world need to strengthen coordination in addressing global issues like climate change and food security.

The two sides voiced support for maritime freedom and settlement of disputes through peaceful means and in accordance with the principles of international law.

On the occasion, Bangladesh officially recognized Viet Nam’s market economy status in a bid to deepen trade and economic relations and friendship between the two countries./.
