Located at the gateway of the Mekong Sub-region, Việt Nam always pays attention to and is actively cooperating with the regional countries, especially via the Mekong-Japan mechanism, said the Vietnamese Government chief.

Initiated in 2008, the Mekong-Japan cooperation mechanism has proved its significance in supplementing the existing mechanisms in the region and the Mekong Sub-region, asserted PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

The Mekong sub-region countries have carried out projects, funded with US $20 million by Japan, on developing infrastructure in the West-East economic corridor and the Southern coastal corridor.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng was convinced that such projects would facilitate passenger and goods transportation and socio-economic ties among the regional countries.

Delegates are supposed to discuss on and figure out solutions for further relations with Japan in all fields.

Addressing the event, PM Yukio pledged that the Japanese Government would spare no effort to nurture the development of the Mekong region.
