VN to participate in COP17 and CMP7

VGP – A Vietnamese delegation will participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 7th Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (CMP7) to the Kyoto Protocol in South Africa from December 5-9.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng has entrusted Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Trần Hồng Hà to lead the delegation to the COP17 and CMP7, according to an Official Dispatch released recently by the Office of Government.

Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Phạm Văn Tấn said that the Vietnamese delegation will come up with the country’s policies on climate change adaptation.

On the sidelines of the conferences, the delegation is expected to have bilateral meetings with counterparts from Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, and Australia.

Moreover, Việt Nam will chair a conference on carbon market development with the European Union.

As many as 20,000 delegates from194 countries and territories have confirmed to join those events, which will be held in Africa for the first time.
