VN-WB cooperation to be brought to new plane

VNGOP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made the emphasis on August 6 in Hà Nội while welcoming Mr. Robert Zoellick, new President of the World Bank (WB) who is visiting Việt Nam.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng highly applauded Mr. Robert Zoellick for his good emotions to Việt Nam, especially his contribution during his term as the US Trade Representative to the normalization of the Việt nam–US relationship.

The Government head expressed his gratitude to WB supports to Việt Nam's renovation and international integration, especially in developing socio-economic infrastructure, poverty reduction. The PM also lauded the Bank's commitment to grant big ODA to Việt Nam.

After confirming the Vietnamese Government and his determination in fighting against corruption, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng asked WB to further support Việt Nam in building up socio-economic infrastructure and training human resource. He suggested the WB to increase preferential loans from the International Development Association (IDA) to Việt Nam to fund projects on infrastructure, economic growth promotion and poverty alleviation.

Mr. Robert Zoellick showed his pleasure and admiration to great achievements made by Việt Nam in socio-economic development and poverty reduction. “The WB is always proud of its relationship with Việt Nam”, President Zoellick stated.

The WB President stated that the Bank is ready to cooperate with Việt Nam in the fields suggested by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

In the afternoon of the same day, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had a reception to Mr. Artem Volunets, Executive Director of the Russian Rusal Group, one of the world's largest aluminium companies . Director Artem Volunets expressed his desire to build up a strategic partnership with Vietnamese economic groups in making aluminum products and constructing an alumina refinery in Việt Nam. He said that his group aims at developing not only aluminum industry but also infrastructure.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng highly appreciated the initiative of Rusal and confirmed that Việt Nam has a great reserve of alumina. The Government chief welcomed the cooperation between Rusal and the Việt Nam Coal and Mineral Group on the basis of mutual benefits. He pledged that the Vietnamese Government will provide best conditions for Russian economic groups to do business in Việt Nam in gas and oil, mineral and telecommunications.
