2013 Radio Asia Conference opens

VGP - The 2013 RadioAsia Conference, the only international professional gathering of regional radio broadcasters, convened in Ha Noi on July 29.

Addressing the opening ceremony, which also brought together communication scholars and managers in radio broadcast, PM Nguyen Tan Dung valued the roles of radio and the Voice of Viet Nam (VOV) in particular, saying that scientific and technological advancements, social media explosion and digital technologies have brought opportunities for listeners to access diverse sources of information as well as gradual changes to communication life in each country and the world.

These facilitate and also challenge the press, radio and television broadcasters, requiring them to be more pro-active, creative and co-operative to respond to the new situation, said PM Dung.

This year’s gathering will focus on social media, the interaction between the public and the media through the Internet and mobile devices, and the role of technology in improving radio services competitiveness in the new circumstance.

Following the opening ceremony was the conference’s first session, which heard presentations delivered by leading radio managers and experts.

They shared their ideas on such hot topics as Radio on the Move: A New Era Dawns; A New Dimension of Radio; Killer Apps for Radio; Interacting with the ‘Connected’ Audience; Storytelling and the ‘On-air’ Imagination; Folklore in Vietnamese Radio; and Radio: The Private Realm ‘Cute Producer – Creative Listener.

On the sidelines, workshops on social media, mobile reporting and radio programming, new techniques for ‘heritage’ media, and radio and emergency situations will be organised.
