Central and local authorities join efforts to overcome difficulties

VNGOP – Addressing a meeting with leaders from 32 northern provinces on April 2 to discuss solutions for deflation and realization of the socio-economic development plan 2008, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng highlighted the consistency in perception and measures to deal with current economic difficulties.

Standing Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng asked the attendants to find out the answers for seven “thorny” problem: (1) stabilizing production and ensuring commodity demand-supply balance, (2) boosting the export of advantaged goods to narrow the trade gap, (3) tightening budget expenditure and seeking for “destinations” for investment projects, (4) promoting thrift practice in production and daily life, (5) controlling price, preventing speculation and smuggling, (6) assisting people in calamity-stricken areas, and (7) reaching a consensus among the Government, business community and the common people in dealing with national issues.

The Government leaders emphasized five requirements for local authorities: thrift practice and anti-prodigality in all sectors and at all echelons; checking all the State budget-using investment projects to remove ineffective ones; Promoting the production of exports; Maintaining the demand-supply balance and managing the market and prices; and Putting into reality the Government’s supportive policies.

During the meeting, many delegates put forwards proposals for lifting obstacles in investment, production and investment as well as stabilizing people’s life. They also directly mentioned specific hindrances in policies, such as some regulations on compensation for site clearance, on readjusting investment capital in the context of price slippage, on bidding, and on assisting disadvantaged people.

Concluding the meeting, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stated “Difficulties cannot annul our tasks and targets. I strongly believe that, if we can curb inflation, maintain growth rate, and ensure social welfare this year, we will attain a good impetus for the development in the following years, GDP can rise up 9-10%”.
