The VND35,700 billion plant has total capacity of 1,200 MW, the third largest hydropower plant built on Da River. The other two plants are Hoa Binh hydroelectricity plant (capacity of 1,920 MW) and Son La hydroelectricity plant (capacity of 2,400 MW).

The three plants are expected to generate a combined output of 25 billion kWh per year.

Speaking at the event, PM Dung stressed on the importance of the three national-level plants for national socio-economic development, security and defense, flood control, and water supply in dry season.

On behalf of the Government, the PM hailed great efforts made by the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) and more than 8,000 engineers and workers over the past five years to make the first turbine connected to national grid three months ahead of the schedule.

He also spoke highly of coordination among relevant ministries, agencies and local authorities to relocate more than 8,500 residents to new resettlement areas.

PM Dung urged the EVN to effectively operate the first turbine and strive to put the other two turbines into operation next year.
