Gov’t asks for measures to prevent vehicle explosions

VGP – The Government has requested relevant ministries to take necessary measures for preventing vehicle explosions.

Specifically, the Ministry of Science and Technology is responsible for enhancing inspection of the quality of petroleum.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will work with provincial Departments of Industry and Trade to expand inspection of petroleum stations across the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport is in charge of coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade work out the causes of such explosions.

The request was made following a series of vehicle explosions which caused serious losses. 

Last year, 50 cars and 39 motorbikes caught fire suddenly, killing two people and injuring two others, said Trịnh Ngọc Giao, Head of the Việt Nam Register.

In Hà Nội alone, between December 1, 2010 and December 18,2011, there were 42 explosions of motorbikes and cars of various brands like Hyundai, Daewoo, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Kia, Toyota, SYM,  Honda.

About 72% of the fires of vehicles in 2011 have yet to be clarified. Of the remaining cases, 11% were caused by short circuits, 4.6% by collisions, 6.9% by fires at the places where vehicles were kept, and 2.3% by intentional burning, official said.
