The credit agreement was signed between Việt Nam and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on October 13, 2011.

Under the agreement, ADB would provide a loan worth of US $293 million in 25 years with five-year grace period. The project is scheduled to be finished in 2015.

The section Nhổn-Hà Nội Station started construction on September 25, 2010 and is projected to handle 150,000 people a day and almost half a million a day by 2030.

It includes the design and construction of the depot and ancillary buildings, elevated viaducts, transition tunnel portal, cut and cover and bored running tunnels, and 12 stations, with eight elevated and four underground. This includes all civil, structural, building services, architectural/builders work and all necessary utility services to the works.

The total length of the section is 12.5km, of which 3.6km underground, 8.4km elevated, and 500m in ramps.
