Viet Nam and Haiti set up diplomatic ties on September 26, 1997. Haiti opened its Embassy in Ha Noi in December 2013.
The relations between the two countries have been developing positively. Last year, PM Laurent Lamothe was the first Haiti’s high-ranking leader to pay an official visit to Viet Nam.
During the talks with the Vietnamese counterpart, the two PMs discussed measures to foster the bilateral ties, including the exchange of delegations at all levels and acceleration of cooperation in trade, telecommunication, agriculture, construction, food security, poverty reduction among others.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung also paid an official visit to Haiti last March. During their talks, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in telecommunication, agriculture, food security, construction, and trade.
They pledged to encourage and create favorable conditions for their business communities for mutual benefits.
The two countries will launch negotiations on a framework cooperation agreement, an agreement on investment encouragement and protection, and visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders.
The two PMs also exchanged views on some regional and international issues of common concern and voiced their support for each other at international organizations and multilateral forums for peace, stability and development in the world./.
