Lethal injections to begin from November
VGP – Lethal injection will be used for capital execution instead of firing squads from November 1, 2011, according to Government’s Decree 82/2011/NĐ-CP.

The practice enforces the Law on Execution of Criminal Sentences which took effect on July 1, 2011.
Under the Decree, the Ministry of Health is in charge of providing substances serving the lethal injections at the request of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense.
Việt Nam applies the death penalty for 29 different crimes including murder; armed robbery; treason; drug trafficking; sexual abuse of children; and a string of economic crimes, such as embezzling VND 500 million (US $33,108) or more of state property./.
