The visit aims at enhancing and consolidating the Việt Nam-Denmark friendship and multi-faceted cooperation, particularly in the fields of economics, trade, investment and responding to climate change.

During his visit, PM Dũng will hold talks with Danish PM Lars Lokke Rasmusse, have separate meetings with Queen Magrethe II and the Speaker of the Parliament, and attend the Việt Nam–Denmark Business Forum.

Denmark is one of the first European countries that set up diplomatic relations with Việt Nam (November 25, 1971). Since then, the two sides have regularly exchanged high-ranking delegations.

The two-way trade turnover is increasing year after year, reaching US $226 million in 2006, US $308 in 2007, and US $318 in 2008. Việt Nam mainly exports to Denmark garments and textiles, footwear, wood furniture, fine arts and handicraft products, electrical appliances, and coffee.

Denmark now ranks the 22 nd among 82 countries and territories and the 5 th among the EU members doing investment in Việt Nam. It is also one of the main official development aid providers for Việt Nam in the northern European region.

In responding to climate change, Denmark committed a US $40-million package for Việt Nam’s program on adapting and mitigating impacts of global climate change.

Currently, around 12,000 Vietnamese people are deeply-rooted in Denmark.
