PM Dũng embarks on trip to 14th ASEAN Summit
VGP - PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and a Vietnamese high-ranking delegation this morning left Hà Nội for Cha Am, Thailand, to attend the 14th ASEAN Summit.
| | | ASEAN leaders at the 13 th ASEAN Summit, November 20, 2007, Singapore | Under the theme “ASEAN Charter for ASEAN Peoples”, the Summit lasts from February 28 to March 1, with the participation of leaders of ten member-nations. ASEAN leaders will discuss orientations and solutions to deepen ASEAN cooperation, focusing on the implementation of the ASEAN Charter, the construction of the ASEAN Community, global economic turmoil, food and energy security; natural disaster control and mitigation; and ASEAN’s external relations. The 14 th Summit, the first one convened after the ASEAN Charter came into effect, will convey a strong message that ASEAN is continuing its regional cohesion and consolidating its role to cope with regional and international changes. At the Summit, Việt Nam wants to make contributions to strengthening solidarity and unity within ASEAN, guaranteeing the Association’s leading role in keeping peace, stability, cooperation and development; speeding up the construction of the ASEAN Community and the realization of the ASEAN Charter; and enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and partners. Apart from official meeting sessions, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and other leaders will take part in dialogues and unofficial meetings with the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Organization (AIPO), ASEAN youths and some civil and social organizations.
